Getting to Morzine & Les Gets
Morzine and Les Gets are two of the most
accessible ski resorts in France. Getting here is
easy by air, car or train. However you decide to
travel we can help and advise you.
By Air
Morzine and Les Gets are only 75 minutes drive away from Geneva
airport making both a great spot for short breaks or family holidays.
There are many cheap flights available to Geneva from where
mini-bus transfers (see our Useful Morzine & Les Gets Links section)
can be arranged through independent companies or through your
accommodation to whisk you to your doorstep in resort.
Alternatively you can choose to hire a car.
The resorts are also accessible from Lyon (140 mins) and
Chambery (100 mins).
Before booking your flight check the baggage weight allowance.
Normally you will pay extra for skis (but they do not normally check if
there are two pairs in the bag). Consider taking your ski boots as
hand luggage and stuffing the boot bag with other bits such as socks
and thermals!
Consider the final price of your flight. Is the low cost airline cheaper than BA when you have paid all of the hidden extras (tax, equipment, etc)?
By Train
There is a regular train service from the French channel ports to Thonon or you can take the Eurostar to Paris or Lille and then TGV to Cluses (daily) or Thonon (Saturday and Sunday).
Mini-bus transfers can also be arranged from Cluses or Thonon to bring you to your accommodation.
By Car
For those who enjoy driving Morzine is an easy 8-9 hour drive from the channel ports. Morzine is 998 km from London, 600km from Paris and 1042km from Amsterdam. The nearest motorway exit is on the A40 at Cluses.
Allow approximately £40 / €60 each way for tolls. Fuel is cheaper than in the UK. Use the Channel Tunnel or P&O Ferries to get to France.
Having a car in resort gives you the flexibility to visit surrounding ski resorts and towns but is by no means necessary in either Morzine or Les Gets.
Car Hire
There are many car hire agencies at Geneva Airport. From Geneva confirm that your car has a Swiss motorway sticker (vignette) and snow chains. We advise pre-booking your car hire as paying on the day tends to be very expensive.
It is also possible to hire a car in Morzine for a couple of days if you want to get out to surrounding towns and ski resorts.
Transfers
Return mini-bus transfers from Geneva Airport and Cluses and Thonon rail stations to resort can be arranged through independent companies or through your accommodation to whisk you to your doorstep in resort. These should always be booked in advance.
